Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

The Lightning Thief is the first book of 5 in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It is a fantasy-adventure novel and is based on Greek mythology.

Percy Jackson is a normal 12 year old boy with dyslexia and ADHD, or so he thinks. He lives with his mother, Sally Jackson, and his stepfather, the smelly Gabe Ugliano. Percy has been expelled from 7 different schools in the last 7 years. One day he goes on a school trip to a greek museum where strange things start happening, like math teachers turning into monsters and pens turing into swords. When school is over Percy and his mom go to Percy's favourite beach. When they arrive Grover, his best friend, turns up and tells them to come with him to a weird camp Percy has never heard of, surprisingly his mom agrees. On the way there Percy's mom disappears and nobody knows if she is dead or alive. In this camp, Percy discovers that he is a demigod and that Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen. Zeus thinks that Percy is the thief and wants his bolt back by midsummer solstice, which is in 10 days, or there will be war.

This is one of our favourite books. It is funny and exciting and we really reccomend it.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - by Cassandra Clare

City of Bones is the first book of six in the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments. This is a fantasy novel about a 15 year old Clary Fray who lives in New York.

One night when she and her best friend Simon go to the Pandemonium Club she sees a boy with blue hair and bright green eyes and a girl with black hair go into a room.  Two boys with knifes follow them into the room, but no one else seems to notice them. She sends Simon off to get help and follows them into the room. She soon realizes that the two boys with the knifes and the girl intend to kill the blue haired boy. Clary tries to stop them but does not succeed. Shortly after they kill the boy, Simon shows up with a security guard. The strange thing is that neither Simon nor the security guard were able to see the boys and the girl.

This is how Clary got to know the Shadow-world, and its Vampires, Werewolfs, Warlocks, Fairies and Shadowhunters, who don't just believe in demons but also kill them. In this world all the stories are true. There are zombies, mermaids but no mummies (don't be ridiculous, no one believes in mummies).

This is one of our favourite books and we really recommend it and all of Cassandra Clare's books. They are AWESOME!
